Producing stamp dies for minting is a challenging task. For more than 20 years, hubbing has been the main process, but since the amount of commemorative coins and medals is growing steadily and the need for quicker design-changes has increased at the same time, a new process is needed for creating high-quality stamping-dies with a comparable die-life.
With latest developments and innovations by ACSYS, laser engraving has reached an incredible engraving speed and gained various additional production capabilities. First and foremost, the Premium-Performance Galvo Scan Head speeds up the 3D engraving process by up to 70% for complex designs. Further to this, the Femtosecond Laser delivers incredible quality and speed, similar or better to a Picosecond Laser system. And with our patented Pulse Forging technology you can make surfaces clean, smooth and shiny, similar to polishing. However, Pulse Forging is a cold process and thus does not change any material properties or affect the hardness of the die.
And, as Alexander Aminidis pointed out during his presentation at 19th Technical Forum at World Money Fair in Berlin: “Direct Laser Engraving process takes approximately one day, instead of months for the traditional workflow. Starting with scanning the order and loading the design, right to direct engraving and coating, the process is very straightforward and merely a question of hours instead of days, depending on the quantity of engravings you need.”
