The beam shape of new fibre lasers allows for very precise cutting with flat joints of up to 5 µm for stainless steel 3 mm thick. The Gaussian beam and focus shape and correspondingly greater intensity in the focus ensure reliable cutting, even with highly reflective or heat-resistant materials.
